Long Island is one of the few Whitsunday island destinations where there is more than one resort on the island. Long Island, like its name implies is long and thin in topography and there are three resorts spread out along its length. Each is set in its own coconut palm lined bay and each has its own private beach. Long Island is also one of the closest islands to the mainland, Shute Harbour and Airlie Beach. Regular ferry services come to each of the resorts from both the mainland and from Hamilton Island. These resorts can also be reached by helicopter transfers if you are happy with the extra expense. Air transfers provide a spectacular view over the entire Whitsunday Passage while you are being delivered to your resort.
The most northerly of these resorts is also one of the most luxurious. Peppers Palm Bay resort caters for the affluent end of the market who want a resort with five star service and food and where they can just lay back and relax with a good book or beside the pool while being surrounded by luxury. Peppers Palm Bay does not cater for those looking for a large resort with lots of activities. The resort is made up of only 21 private accommodation huts set up facing the beach and each separate from the other. There is a magnificent pool and restaurant area and the entire resort has a fantastic reputation. At the southern end of the island is an even more exclusive resort. Paradise Bay Eco Escape caters for only 16 guests at any one time and relaxation and luxury are the keywords of this fantastic resort. Once again, accommodation is found in separate bungalows set up along the beach and each one separate from the other. The resort has a beautiful restaurant and plenty of aquatic sports.
The largest resort on Long Island is Long Island resort. It is located in the center of the island and is rated at three and a half star. Its clientele is generally family groups as the tariffs include all meals and accommodation. There are lots of things to entertain the kids during the day including a kids club. Excellent swimming pools and lots of aquatic sporting equipment like snorkeling gear, canoes, kayaks and sailing catamarans are available for the use of guests.
