If you havn’t been to Hamilton Island for over ten years, you will be absolutely amazed by the changes that have been made and the way the older accommodation has been refurbished and maintained. While much of the original Reef View hotel and Whitsunday holiday apartment accommodation looks the same from the outside, you will be pleasantly surprised by its excellent condition on the inside. The restaurants and service buildings similarly are in excellent condition. The real surprise is what has been added over the last ten years.
The northern end of Hamilton Island used to be covered in forest. Today, among the forest and complimenting it are the windward and leeward pavilions of Qualia resort. This is without a doubt, one of the best new resorts in the world. It has been constructed to blend with its environment and each of the individual pavilions is separate and private from its neighbors but still maintains a fantastic view over the water and Whitsunday Island to the north. Qualia is a gated development so only staff and guests can get in or out and each pavilion comes with its own golf cart so you can commute to the other parts of the island. Meals are all included in the tariffs and that includes eating out in any of the islands other restaurants.
Beside the Hamilton Island marina and boat harbour you will now find the brand new Hamilton Island yacht club and complimenting it and tiered across the hillside behind it are the sensational new Hamilton Island yacht club Villas. These are really like Qualia with kids and the multi storey houses come in a multiple of configurations to suit different size groups. These and the Whitsunday Holiday Apartments are the best choices for families with kids. The yacht club and marina are only a short walk and the new “Bommies” restaurant in the yacht club is now the best restaurant on the island The other sensational new addition to Hamilton island is the new championship 18 hole golf course. As a golfer, who has played it, I can tell you that it is without doubt, among the best golf courses in the world. The views and the course itself are absolutely spectacular and it will compare favorably with international competition like Pebble Beach in the USA. The course has actually been built on Dent Island which is next door to Hamilton Island and it can be accessed via a regular fast boat ride from the marina.
The airport on Hamilton Island makes it the easiest resort in Australia to get to and in any east coast capital city, you are no more that three hours away. So if you want to, and there is availability, you could realistically be relaxing in Hamilton Island accommodation tomorrow!
